Launch, Learn, + Iterate

Designing the Podcast Import Experience

Client: Wistia
Wistia is a complete video hosting platform for better marketing. As more companies create video shows and podcasts to build their brand, Wistia added support for podcasting to an existing feature – Wistia Channels, empowering users to create immersive content experiences with both audio and video.

Problem to Solve
I wanted to make it simple for a user with an existing podcast to import their show into Wistia, allowing them to save time with initial setup.

My Role
I was the product designer responsible for the entirety of the podcast import experience, and I collaborated closely with my engineering partner to understand the technical requirements and possibilities for import.

I collaborated with a researcher for usability testing and incorporated feedback from Wistia's core product team. I had weekly meetings with a product manager and design lead.

Considerations
With the first iteration, I was asked to focus on the UX and rely on an existing component library to speed up development. This allowed us to get to a beta launch and usability testing.

Solution
Out of the beta test, I was able to harness user insights and improve the experience by simplifying the flow, adding a seamless search experience, and modernizing the UI. Check out the before and after in these short videos:
